Dreams of a Different Public Education

The Khalil Gibran school, founded by a Muslim educator Debbie Almontaser, tried to offer something unique in American public schools--mandatory Arabic language instruction.  Ms. Almontaser dreamed that the school's graduates would become "ambassadors of peace and hope."  After a negative publicity campaign led by Daniel Pipes forced Ms. Almontaser to resign as principal of Gibran, the school's promise has yet to be reached.  The New York Times looks at the rise and fall of Ms.
