Jane Shaw is the Dean of Grace Cathedral in San Francisco. She previously served as Dean of Divinity and Fellow of New College, Oxford University, where she taught history and theology. She is also Canon Theologian of Salisbury Cathedral and has served as Theological Consultant to the Church of England House of Bishops. The Very Rev. Shaw received an M.Div. from Harvard University and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley. She is the author of A Practical Christianity: Mediations for the Season of Lent (2012); and Miracles in Enlightenment England (2006). She is also author of Octavia, Daughter of God: The Story of a Female Messiah and Her Followers (2011), which won the San Francisco Festival of Books History Prize. She is coeditor of The Call for Women Bishops (2004); and Culture and the Nonconformist Tradition (1999). She writes for various British newspapers, including The Times, and has made programs for BBC Radio.
